Red Bag Waste
Planned red bag and biohazard waste collection for New Jersey healthcare generators.
The red biohazard bag is the most recognizable symbol of regulated medical waste, and also one of the most misused. Putting the wrong things in a red bag drives up your costs; leaving regulated waste out of one creates compliance risk. Our planned red bag service starts with getting the stream right.
What belongs in a red bag
Red bags are for regulated medical waste such as items saturated or dripping with blood or other potentially infectious materials, and other waste that meets New Jersey’s definition of regulated medical waste. The exact classification depends on the waste and applicable requirements, so when in doubt, ask before you toss.
What does not belong in a red bag
- Loose sharps (these need rigid sharps containers, not bags)
- General trash, packaging and food waste
- Hazardous chemicals (a separate regulated stream)
- Items with only tiny spots of blood that do not meet the regulated definition
Over-classification is one of the most common reasons small practices overpay for waste service. Part of our planned Founding Customer invoice review is helping you see whether your current red bag volume actually matches your regulated waste.
How our planned red bag pickup will work
- Qualifying red bag waste must be packaged, labeled and documented in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Recurring route pickups or on-call service, matched to your actual volume.
- Full tracking documentation with every pickup.
- Transport to appropriately authorized receiving, treatment or disposal facilities.
Service is in development and pending required regulatory approvals. We are not accepting or transporting regulated medical waste at this time.
